Murugan Arul Pravagam is a multimedia masterpiece on Lord Muruga that will be a proud possession for any Murugan devotee.
Kumarakottam
Kumarakottam is where Kandapuranam was written and staged. Lord Muruga
is said to have helped the poet-saint with the first line of Kandapuranam
Tigada Chakram and also blessed him with the consecration of Kandapuranam.
Hence this place is noted for Murugan adiyargal. Somaskanda Moorthy is
another important form of Lord Siva. In this form goddess Parvati is on
the left of Lord Siva and we find Lord Muruga in between the two.
Chennimalai:
The temple
of Tiru Kumarakottam of Kanchipuram is in the form of Somaskanda Moorthy,
as it lies in between Tiruvekambar and Tirukamakotti.
Marudamalai
The holy Srine of Marudamalai is believed to remove both physical and
mental afflictions and attachments as the hill abounds in medicinal herbs.
The pleasant breeze and the peaceful environments bring harmony and quietness
to the minds of devotees. Saints and sages have long preferred this hill
and would come here in search of Kayakalpam the divine medicine
for salvation. The celestial cow Kamadhenu is believed to have grazed in
the pastures of this hillock and drunk from the springs under the marudam
tree as per Perur Puranam written by Kachiappa Munivar.
Chennimalai:
The most famous temple of Lord Muruga in Coimbatore district is Chennimalai.
This world-famous temple of Lord Muruga is where Lord Arunagirinathar was
blessed with Padikasu, wealth of coins.
This is where an unusual phenomenon, rather a miracle took place in
the year 1984 on 12th February. On that eventful day two bullocks of their own accord pulled a bullock cart up the
1320 steps. Saravana Munivar wrote the
most popular Chennimalai Sthalapuranam 700 years ago. Milk and curds are used as special offerings to Lord Muruga in Chennimalai
and it is the general belief that curds do not become sour here.
Tiru Murugan Poondi
Tiru Murugan Poondi has been praised in hymns written by Sundara Moorthy
Nayanar and others. It is one of the most popular Saivaite temple in the
district of Coimbatore. It is here that Lord Siva is believed to have shown
his divine presence to the poet Sundara Moorthy Nayanar. Holy saints like
Agasthiar, Markandeyar and Duruvasar have worshipped in the temple. Saint
Duruvasar is said to have brought the Kurukathi Tree from the abode of
Indra to this temple and hence it gets the name Madhavi Vanam.
This temple has a treasure house of inscriptions and has been referred
in ancient literature. Dolamy, a foreign researcher, refers to this place
as Masthanur. He belongs to the pre-Christian era. People afflicted with
mental illness get relief when they worship in this temple.
This place is referred as Poondi Managar in Tevaram by Sundarar, as Tirunagar
by Ilayan Kavirayar and Kongu Rajapuram by Arunagiri in Tiruppugazh.
It is the general custom to also call this place as Kandamapuri.
Vayalur:
Lord Muruga blessed the saint poet Arunagirinathar at Vayalur and initiated
him to write Tiruppugazh. Arunagirinathar wrote 18 verses (910-927) on
Vayalur in the famous Tiruppugazh. Lord Natarajar is in the Sadura Thanda
pose in this temple.
Viralimalai:
Viralimalai temple is specially known for the peacocks that are found in plenty.
Cigar is a unique offering similar to the sandal paste offered to Lord
Dandayudhapani during arthajama puja in Palani. During the reign of Ramachandra
Thondaiman of Pudukottai, the Lord is believed to have appeared in his
dream and requested the offering of cigars for the Kalasandhi and Sayaratchai
puja. The king is said to have been cured of his diseases after the offer
of cigars to the Lord according to history. We also find a number of caves
in which the saints and yogis were in penance. This is a place where the
Lord blesses the devotees the power to control the indriyas or senses.
Naradar and Kasiyappar had offered prayer to Lord Subrahmanya for getting
their sins propitiated. The dumb Sivachariyar got his speech after offering
pujas to Lord Muruga. These and many more are the specialties of this temple.
